I'm in the process of gathering parts to build a 383. My goal with this motor is to try to get a 3200lb. 80' Malibu into the 11.40's if possible. Shooting for around 520hp. I already have the top end to the motor it will consist of Comp xr286r (specs are dur at .050 248 & 252 lift is 578 & 582) solid roller cam RHS pro action 200cc aluminum heads with scorpion 1.5 roller rockers. A Victor jr intake with a holley 750 hp. The bottom end is where I have some questions I already have some Scat 4340 5.7 rods. I don't have pistons or crank yet. I found a deal on some speed pro L2491 383 forged pistons. With these pistons my compression would be 10.76/1 does this sound like enough to make the power level I want or should I look for a better piston like an srp or mahle with more compression. The Speed pro are about half the price of the others. I know they weigh about 497 grams, is this considered a heavy piston. I am also looking into a Scat forged crank. How does the rest of the combo sound. Any input would be appreciated.

The Speed Pro's will work fine. They are a little heavy, but I doubt if the motor will spin past 6500 ever. Just put a good balance job on it. I wouldn't be afraid to use Scats cast crank. I've put them through a ton of abuse with no failures. If you want better building blocks for the future get the forged crank and a little better piston. If you always want a street car and don't plan to abuse the car you can safely get away with the others. You should have no problem making enough power to run mid 11's.
