Hey haven't been aroudn lately, i used to post on the old board! I also posted this on the chevelle board, but wanted to see what you guys thought. Got my mitutoyo 2-6" dial bore guage in the mail today and procedde to check my bearingn clearances on my 454 today, and they are totally excessive, i am mad at my machinist, he knows his stuff and gives really good prices and is really nice BUT he wrote on my invoice that he align honed the block and checke all the clearances and they were all between .020-.025 heres what i found using the method of mic'ing the crank, then using the mic setting the dial bore guage to zero, then inserting the dial bore guage into the rod/main and noting the difference rods #1 .0034 #2 .0032 #3 .0034 #4 .0034 #5 .0034 #6 .0033 #7 .0032 #8 .0031
Mains #1 .0032 #2 .0035 #3 .0032 #4 .0019 !!!!! #5 (rear main) .0035/.0040 with oil pump torqued down
I am using eagle H beam rods and an orginal GM forged crank cut .020 under the O.D. in teh crank were rod journal 2.1793 (+/- .0002) Main jorunals 2.7288 (+/- .0002) also i measured all of the old bearing and new bearing shells and they were all exactly .104 What can i do to get these clearances right? According to a reliable resource clevite doesnt' offer the correct bearings to make up the differnece. Should i run them as is? or request the blcok to be line bored/honed? i am worried about that #4, main i will probably check that again. Thanks!
