Oliver, Lunati, GRP. Depends on steel or alum. Any of those would work well. Your pin is gonna be real high in that deal. Good luck with those pistons. I think your running NA so your probably OK.

John- Mike has a good point. Although you did not mention if this was a tall deck 9.300" small block. I have done many of these style engines with the both blocks, and you really cant run the 9.00" standard deck blocks with a 6.125" rod. Like Mike said there is no room for a piston. If it is a tall deck then you will be able to run up to a 6.250" rod with a 4" stroke. Either way, For a steel rod, I like the Lunati Pro Mod billet rods. I use the standard super duty Pro Mods to 900hp with no problems. The billet is even nicer, and have seen 1100-1200 on them so far. You are at a fine line at 1,000hp since anything at or over should get an aluminum rod, in which I recommend MGP. Speak to Mike over there, he is good. Any of the standard 4340 rods are usually good for 800 or so but wont fit, the Lunati big end is scalloped for added clearance, unles you like to push the limits like Mr. Stark..We have spoken many a hours telling me the crap he gets away with using a ton of nitrous. I think he is nuts! lol. If you are using alot of spray and feel you will be closer to 1,000+hp, go alum. rods, and billet caps! If it is a standard block you will have a hard time fitting an alum. rod in a 4" stroke engine. Tall deck can with some grinding. Be sure to use a .875" base circle cam. If you go regular rod, not billet or alum, go with Lunati's Super Duty 6" Pro Mod. Heavy but strong as hell. If you want lighter and stronger go with their billet. I have a set now I am using for a customer that are 611 grams!! Had my guy weed out 8 of the lightest..Hope this helps.

the block is a standard 9" deck, the piston is a two ring deal, the pin is moved up and the pin is short, with my engine builder talking to our friend from CP who's a deal for them, with that piston,we could use a 6.125" rod with the 4" stroke, so the pistons have 5cc of dome, at 60cc,to make the compression at 14.6.hopfully he's right- that would really piss me off!!!. thanks for the help on the rods, think all get the Billet Pro mod rods, lighter, rev faster. no spray here, all motor for the Pro-Stock class in the new NMCA Fastest Street Cars. i went 9.44 with a 420"sbc,protopline RR 256,th400,12bolt-4.88,3320lb. car w/mufflers, now-same combo,440", adding dom. carb., vacuum pump, 9.5"converter,took 230lbs. out of car, to weigh 3100lbs. for that cu.in.,don't know about what gears to put in rear yet ,maybe 4.30's, Thanks Again for the help and info.

David Reher once said that "he doesn't even think about rod ratio, the only thing to think about with your rods is if they will hold together." I would have gone with a 6" rod, and I think that if you are just running all motor than the only rod to go with would be aluminum. JMO. Joe, What would you take be on a turbo motor then? I have heard that a manley 4340 H beam will be fine near 1600 horse.?? Nitrous I can see a severe rod, but what do you think about the turbo deals? Dave Brown

In the last " ENGINE MASTERS " challenge, John Kaase looked to Warren Johnson for advice on the crank, rod , piston combination. I don't mean to make it sound point blank but he ( KAASE) stated that as a general rule make the rod 2" longer than the stroke and you should be about right. I know this opens up alot of debate, but hey I didn't say it and I didn't misquote it. Thats what the man said. And being that KASSE won the event, something must be right with the combination. Just my 2 cents.

I've used the Howards rods plenty of times. They work great (don't break!) ;D. I'll be running outlaw drag radial and some local 10" tire stock suspension stuff.
