Here is the subject......406 sbc nos engine, 45.7cc combustion chamber 18* head. 2.18-1.625 valve. 4.165 bore. Final compression ratio cam to 16.22 to 1.
QUESTION?
My understanding and past history with the timing and compression on 18* heads has showed that not alot of timing is needed.My last engine was 14.52 to 1 and same type of heads( same cnc program ) so all the same. Different cam and only required 32 degrees total timing. This new engine as described above likes 37 degrees timing. Made its best power ( peak and avg.) I just can't get a grasp on why??? Could the cam be causing this? Big lsa and icl....could that be it? This was to be an all out nos sb. Whatever it did on the engine would be fine, I just wanted the best power I could make on the spray.
