On a block deck that has been cut for an oring groove, be used without having the stainless wire installed? I am curious b/c I would like to run Cometic's on my BBC. I have a seepage problem on one cylinder, it's getting water but not a ton. Any ideas?

Ain't gonna happen. It wouldn't seal for nuts with a groove around the cylinder and nothing in it.

I ran a Olds rocket out of my blown alky dragster in a street driven car for a couple of seasons using Felpro MLS gaskets on a block that had O-rings in the deck and a 4.125" bore. I peened in some stainless wire good n' tight (German term) and then put it in the surfacer and took portruding wire down to the deck and then went a couple more thousandths for clean up and have had 0 problems. The MLS, Cometic or Felpro, like a super smooth surface finish. We like to get them around 20-30 Ra.
