new to site and low on knowledge, i am building a Chevy 350, came across a set of 2.02 heads that had a lot of work done to them, the valve spring diam. is 1.540 (triple spring for roller) i am just going to run a solid lifter cam, and am wondering if the new valve springs have to have that same outside diam. or is there a spacer or seat or something to down size that to a smaller, not so aggressive spring. any advice would be appreciated thanks

I'm not an expert either, but they make a cup in different sizes for springs. I'm sure Mike Stark will chime in to give you the str8 poop.

Depending on the size of the cam you may want to step down to a 1.440 double spring or even a Behive style spring. There are spring locators available for any and all springs. You will need to verify your installed height first and work from there.

Like Mike said, that spring you have is a roller spring. You will flatten a cast iron corn instantaneously with those springs. Mike and I use the same type springs so he will be able to get them for you, but I would change them. Ask him about the 1.440" o/d springs, with 125-130# seat and 325# open.. If the cam is a real aggressive solid flat tappet, I would go 135-140# on the seat and 350# open, but you will have to break the cam in with the outer spring only or it will wipe a lobe.
