I was pointed here by wolfplace... I have a set of Edelbrock 'rovals' on my 454. Currently making about 500 hp, 550 tq (393 hp, 440 tq rear wheel). They are currently out of box stock and one of these days I'll do some porting... Can't claim to be a pro or anything but I managed to get real nice gains on my old 96 Z28 (LT1) heads.
So has anyone here ported the rovals and what were your results/experience? What areas do they respond well to? Should I concentrate on intake, exhaust or both? Should I do the usual suspects; pockets, short turn radius, lift roof, or?

The heads resond pretty well to some work. Blend all of the CNC cuts into the ports. Widen the bowl and short turn a bit on the intake side. Work the chambers to unshroud the valves. The EX just needs the mild blending. You should pick up and easy 20 cfm (IN) and see another 30 HP or so. Put a back cut o the intake valves to boost low lift flow too.

Thanks, Mike. From the flow data I've seen these flow 307-315 CFM @0.600 so another 20 CFM would make them fairly respectable for ovals. Any idea on what port size I should shoot for? On the LT1 heads I did I went from 155 cc to 175 cc and it worked well. The head work and a set of 1.6 rockers added 40 rwhp on that one.
I don't know if I will touch the chambers. I'm compression challanged as it is and don't want to drop any. Currently only at 9.4:1.

Don't be too concerned with the port volume. Mild blending will ojnly change it a couple of cc's. Stay under 300. I would at the very least lightly hit the sharp edges in the chambers. Flow will more than make up for the compression loss.
