hello everyone. this is my first post on this board. I've been watching the posts on this board for a while and i must say that I'm pretty impressed by the lack of B.S. and the positive comments that are made. i run a sbc 377, 13.5 comp-272,280@.50 660-660 lift 108 sep 4/7 swap cam w/ 1.6 int rockers and 1.5 on the exh. super vic 2925 / Wilson 2" taper spacer, aed prep 750 dp, 1 3/4 header w/ 18" ext. sportsman2"s 205 160- minor porting flows 254 and 186. dynoed 609hp @6900 and 508fp@5300. all in all the combo is very stout. but i think it can be better. best times are 11.06@121 mph 1.51 60ft , launch @ 5100 on the brake, cross the stripe @ 7600. track alt 4900 ft , den alt in summer is around 5900 to 7200 ft.always looking to improve. i think going to an alum head is the hot ticket. just not sure of brand or intake runner size , limited to 2.05 valve due the piston dome clearance. your thoughts are welcome, last bit of car info is 74 nova,2820 w/driver, 2spd glide -5000 stall 5.13 gear-28x 10 slick.stock suspension. thank you for your time.

I also have a set of Sportsman II's in a mild 383 in the similar position. Looking at getting a set of aluminum heads to make more power. I chose to have Mike build me a fully ported set of Dart 215's. They are great heads with excellent port work. They made the power I was looking to make. You cold have Mike port those Sportsman's to save some cash vs. buying a new set of heads. You can usually get them flowing well as any other similar 23* head. If you want to go aluminum I would look into having Mike build you a set of custom ported heads. That was my choice.

cool, people really do read this stuff. I had thought about 215's, but was wondering if the bigger port would hurt charge velocity and kill some bottom end. mike had posted something awhile back about a cfm line of cyl head or something like that? I dont think I'll spend any more money on the sportsman2's, I could use the weight savings more. thank's for the reply ;D

Mikes got a screamin deal on his heads. I just ordered a 210cc set set up for a solid roller. can't beat the price..he also cut the deck to give me 52cc chamber.

Leaving at 5100 on the brake, the larger 215 runner won't hurt the launch but will make more beans in the range you are using. By all means upgrade the sportsmans were the hot ticket 8 or ten years ago but are lacking by todays standards. The runner and chamber designs are outdated and less effective than whats out there now. Bill

Yeah I do agree the Sportsmans are out dated. Considering they were designed in 1983 hahah. Aluminum is the way to go. There is still roundy rounders out there looking to buy those Sportsman's.

I would say for less than $200 Mike can set you up with new heads and a good intake suggestion.
