Don't know how many of you have heard about these heads yet. Bulldog is a new company that is making Cadillac, Chrysler big block, Olds, Pontiac, and Buick aluminum cylinder heads. I will be one of the main dealers here at CFM. I'm working on a race version of the Olds head now. We have gotten good flow and horsepower from all of the heads so far. Mike I'm glad to hear you will be selling these heads. I've been hearing about them for quite a while now. Could you share any info on the olds heads your working on. Any predictions on what the port volumes and or cfm might be? It's going to be a while yet, but I'm planning on owning a set if they prove to be everything others claim. thanks kris

Been testing heavily with the Olds head in here. Got some good numbers out of it.
Box stock (mild blending on bowls and match) heads are 230cc and flow just over 300 cfm.
Mild porting (further blending with addition of chambers) same volume and flow jumps to about 315 cfm.
Standard full port goes about 250cc and flows over 340 cfm.
Big race port is 300cc and hits 390 cfm.
The EX port is really good.
The heads are making really good power. Were are getting ready to test the full race head. Should have some big dyno numbers in a couple of weeks.

The race heads are going on a proven short block. It's a little over 500" with lots of compression and camshaft. Hoping for 900 HP out of it.

Mike Do you think 500 cubes are a nescesity for these heads, or is that just what someone had laying around to use. Also have you ever worked with the batten heads for Olds?, if so, how do you think they compare to the bulldogs. thanks Kris

You can make good power with less cubes. I would just reduce the port a bit to help out. The batten stuff works pretty good. My heads are flowing 25 cfm better than the Battens on the car now. The Batten stuff still make s a lot of power though. Guys like lauer and Travato are really cooking with the old stuff.

Is there different versions of this heads or is there that much meat in them to go that big? If there is different versions of the head what are the differences in them. What size valves are you using?

Thanks Mike It still amazes me how fast Dave and Bill our running with there cars. Only thing is I know they have done a tremendous amout of work to there heads, and with all of the hoopla about these bulldogs, I was curious about an unbiased opinion. How does the port volume of your bulldogs compare to the battens you are looking at? I currently have a set of battens with 235cc intakes. This seems very small for a 470 cube motor, but they flow 325cfm@28'', and to date have made my 3300lb car run 9.95@134mph. How do you think they would compare the bulldogs you have now? Thank you Kris thanks Kris

There is only one casting for the Bulldog Olds. I'm just grinding it that big.
The Bulldog vrs the Battens could be a long winded debate. I think the Battens do a great job of making power. The bulldogs will just be a little more user friendly and affordable.
I think you could afford to add a little volume and cross section to the 470" motor. If your interested in a set of Bulldogs call me. I'm doing a couple of sets now. I could make you a deal if your willing to switch and do some R&D for us.

Mike That would be awesome, would you take a set of slightly used battens in on trade When is a good time to catch you and what number should I use? If there is anyway possible for me to swing it I would love to do some RD work. Thanks Kris

Call me at the shop (317) 782-0375. Afternoon is best. Don't know if I would want to trade in the Battens. Might be best if you sold them out right.

Mike Stark, I recently heard that Bulldog might be in the process of casting a race type Olds block also, do you think there is any truth to that rumor?

There are plans to do an Olds block. There are other projects in line first though. They're doing a Buick now and Chrysler block down the road. The Olds will come after if demand is high enough.
