I have a 427 BBC in my Chevelle that has a set of oval port heads on them. they are GM castings, & IIRC they are 68 Impala 427 heads. Sorry but I forgot the number @ work, I can get it tomorrow.
in any case, the motor started to smoke the other day & this is a new trick for it. it does not do it @ idle, but when I take it down the track it starts to do it. It looks like its coming out of the pass side of the car.
I would guess that its either rings or valve seals. the question is, if I do a leak down on it & find that its the seals, is there a way to fix it w/o yanking the heads?
do they just go out like this?
I yanked the plugs & they dont look like its burning oil, like a 200,000 mile truck motor, they actually look pretty good.
Sorry for the loaded question.

When you say it smokes on one side, is it smoking from a tailpipe? Or just that side of the engine? It is very possible you just have a leak on that side that sprays on the header when the engine sees real oil pressure, like from a valve cover or something. I had one guy blowing oil from his fuel pump and only saw it on acceleration. (mechanical fuel pump that is). If it is coming from the tail pipe, then I doubt it is the seals, as the seal will cause the engine to smoke on deceleration, when under vacuum, not under load like the engine sees going down the track. That is an indication of bad rings. Keep us posted.
